The LASPARK tree planting Lagos initiative has gained momentum as the Lagos State Government continues its push for environmental sustainability and climate resilience across the state.
Eko Hot News reports that the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency planted a total of 1,280 trees across various locations in March 2026, reinforcing its commitment to urban greening and ecological balance.
The large-scale exercise covered multiple Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas, targeting schools, public institutions, residential estates, road setbacks, and community spaces to ensure widespread environmental impact.

A breakdown of the planting shows that Ojokoro LCDA recorded the highest number with 373 trees planted at Millennium Housing Estate, Ijaiye. Epe Local Government followed with 231 trees planted across Epe Grammar School and key road corridors.
Other areas that benefited from the initiative include Ejigbo LCDA with 124 trees at Chrisland College, Ijede LCDA with 215 trees across public institutions, Imota LCDA with 180 trees, Eredo LCDA with 50 trees, Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA with 80 trees, and Ikeja Local Government with 27 trees.
The tree species planted include a mix of ornamental and economic varieties such as Ashoka, Queen Palm, Yellow Elder, Cassia, Frangipani, Bougainvillaea, and Dwarf Coconut, carefully selected to enhance both ecological value and urban aesthetics.

LASPARK emphasised that sustained tree planting remains a key strategy in improving air quality, reducing urban heat, and mitigating the effects of climate change in Lagos.
The agency also highlighted the importance of community involvement, noting that partnerships with schools, residents’ associations, and institutions are critical to maintaining and nurturing the planted trees.
Residents have been encouraged to support the initiative by protecting the trees and adopting environmentally responsible practices to ensure a cleaner, greener, and more livable Lagos.

The development underscores Lagos State’s broader environmental agenda aimed at building a resilient and sustainable urban ecosystem.
