The Irele Tower Lagos Free Zone project has been officially commissioned as Babajide Sanwo-Olu inaugurated the first commercial building within the Lagos Free Zone, marking a significant step in the state’s economic development drive.
Eko Hot News reports that the nine-storey structure, located along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, is a modern, eco-friendly facility designed to support business growth and innovation within the rapidly expanding Lekki corridor.
The tower is an EDGE-certified green building, a standard developed by the International Finance Corporation, which recognises buildings that meet strict efficiency benchmarks. The facility is designed to consume at least 26% less energy and 46% less water compared to conventional buildings, while offering improved indoor air quality and sustainable features such as a green roof.

Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the project as a milestone aligned with his administration’s THEMES+ agenda, aimed at transforming Lagos into a modern, globally competitive economy.
“Irele Tower is designed with a focus on sustainability and productivity, offering shared workspaces that reflect how people work today—from freelancers to remote professionals,” the governor stated.
Situated within the Lagos Free Zone, the development introduces Grade A office and retail spaces into an area previously dominated by industrial infrastructure, expanding its commercial potential.

Officials noted that the project highlights the strength of public-private partnerships in driving investment and unlocking new economic opportunities in Lagos.
The Lekki-Epe corridor continues to emerge as a major economic hub, supported by large-scale infrastructure such as the Lekki Deep Sea Port and other industrial developments, further boosting investor confidence.
However, reactions to the project have been mixed. While many praised its modern design and sustainability features, others raised concerns about the concentration of high-end infrastructure in the Lekki axis, calling for more balanced development across other parts of Lagos.
Governor Sanwo-Olu commended private sector partners for their role in delivering the project, noting that the facility will enhance productivity, support flexible work models, and strengthen Lagos’ position as a leading investment destination in West Africa.
The commissioning of Irele Tower is expected to further elevate the appeal of the Lagos Free Zone, attracting businesses seeking modern, efficient, and sustainable workspaces.
