The Deputy High Commissioner of Canada in Lagos, Carlos Rojas-Arbulu, has paid a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

Eko Hot News reports that the meeting was held at the Ministry’s Conference Room in Alausa, Ikeja, to deepen collaboration in tourism, arts and the creative economy.

The session was presided over by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Idris Aregbe.

Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, and key stakeholders in the creative and hospitality sectors were in attendance.

Aregbe reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to positioning tourism and culture as pillars of economic diversification.

He said the vision aligns with the development agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

He described Lagos as Nigeria’s creative capital and a hub for Africa’s cultural economy.

According to him, the state is developing structured programmes for capacity building and market access.

He noted that stronger ties with Canada would unlock opportunities for creatives and investors.

Rojas-Arbulu highlighted Canada’s expanding engagement with Nigeria across energy, education and ICT.

He said cultural collaboration has grown beyond film to include music, fashion and food.

The envoy referenced Nigerian participation at the Toronto International Film Festival.

He disclosed that Canada is projected to become a leading destination for Nigerian artists’ performances in 2025.

He cited global stars like Burna Boy and Rema as symbols of Nigeria’s creative influence.

The Deputy High Commissioner stressed the need for institutional linkages with platforms such as the University of Toronto.

He said connecting creatives to investors and research institutions would drive sustainable growth.

Rojas-Arbulu announced upcoming initiatives including film screenings and hospitality fairs in Canada.

Permanent Secretary Oyekan-Ismaila emphasised the power of cultural exchange in reshaping global perceptions.

She reiterated that Nigeria remains safe and welcoming under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Stakeholders from the Culinary Arts Practitioners Association of Nigeria and Traxis attended the meeting.

The visit concluded with a cultural performance by the Lagos State Council Troupe.

Officials described the engagement as a step toward stronger bilateral cultural ties.
