The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has commenced immediate cleaning and evacuation operations along the Lagos-Badagry corridor to restore environmental order and improve sanitation.

Eko Hot News reports that operational teams and heavy-duty equipment have been deployed across the axis to clear waste blackspots and enhance public hygiene along the busy transit route.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed this during a monitoring and intervention exercise carried out on Saturday.

Gbadegesin said the initiative forms part of a broader compliance and environmental sustainability drive aimed at protecting public health and preserving urban aesthetics.

He noted that the Lagos-Badagry axis remains a critical economic and transport corridor, making it imperative to maintain high sanitation standards.

According to him, while cleanup operations are ongoing, enforcement activities will be intensified to prevent illegal dumping in affected locations.

He warned that indiscriminate waste disposal would not be tolerated, adding that defaulters would face sanctions in line with environmental regulations.

The LAWMA boss urged residents, traders and transport operators along the corridor to dispose of their waste through assigned Private Sector Participant operators.

He emphasised that proper waste management is a shared responsibility requiring active cooperation between government agencies and the public.

The monitoring exercise covered key areas, including Orile, Doyin, Alaba Rago, Agric, Barracks Iyana-Iba and Agbara, where evacuation efforts are ongoing.

Operational teams were seen clearing accumulated refuse and restoring cleanliness to previously impacted spots.

LAWMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustained surveillance and rapid response measures to maintain environmental standards across Lagos.

The authority also called on community leaders and market associations to support awareness campaigns against illegal dumping.

The intervention underscores the Lagos State Government’s resolve to strengthen sanitation enforcement and promote a cleaner environment.

Residents have been encouraged to report environmental violations through official LAWMA channels for prompt action.

The ongoing exercise is expected to significantly improve sanitation conditions and enhance the overall outlook of the Lagos-Badagry corridor.
