The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed the arrival of approximately 100 United States military personnel and equipment at Bauchi Airfield to strengthen Nigeria’s security operations. The deployment is part of an expanded security partnership between Nigeria and the United States.
Eko Hot News reports that the foreign military advisers are in the country following bilateral defence engagements between both nations. The collaboration aims to enhance the operational efficiency of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) amid persistent security threats.

In a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the DHQ disclosed that the deployment followed a formal request by the Federal Government. The request focused on specialised training, intelligence-sharing, and technical assistance to bolster national security operations.
According to military authorities, the U.S. personnel are stationed strictly in advisory and training roles. They are not authorised to participate in direct combat missions within Nigeria’s territory.

The DHQ clarified that all activities will be carried out under the authority and operational control of the Nigerian government. The Armed Forces of Nigeria will maintain full sovereignty over all security engagements arising from the partnership.
Security sources indicated that the collaboration will prioritise tactical planning, intelligence coordination, and operational analysis. The initiative is designed to improve Nigeria’s capacity to combat insurgency and protect vulnerable communities across affected regions.

The arrival of the advisers comes at a time when Nigeria continues to confront terrorism, banditry, and other asymmetric security threats. Defence officials say the partnership is expected to accelerate military reforms and modernise frameworks.
Authorities emphasised that the cooperation reflects Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening international alliances in the fight against terrorism. The engagement is also expected to enhance interoperability and strategic coordination between both nations’ armed forces.

The Defence Headquarters reassured Nigerians that the partnership aligns with national security interests. It added that transparency will be maintained through periodic updates on the progress of the collaboration.
The development marks another step in Nigeria’s evolving global security diplomacy. Observers believe the expanded partnership could significantly reinforce ongoing military efforts across key operational theatres.
