The Lagos State Government has inaugurated a Planning Committee for the grand celebration of the life and times of the Akran of Badagry, His Royal Majesty, De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I.
Eko Hot News reports that Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu performed the inauguration through the Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin.
Charging members of the Committee, the Governor urged them to work with unity, clarity of purpose, and strong commitment to deliver a befitting and memorable celebration in honour of the revered monarch.
In her remarks, Salu-Hundeyin, who chairs the Committee, thanked the Governor for the confidence reposed in her and the members. She noted that Badagry holds strategic cultural significance to Lagos State and deserves a historic celebration.
She emphasised inclusivity in line with the THEMES Plus Development Agenda, stating that all resolutions will be documented in the State Gazette and presented to the Governor for ratification.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Princess Adetola Akran-Oketunde expressed appreciation to the Governor for honouring their father with a grand remembrance.
The maiden meeting, held at the Akran’s Palace in Jegba, was attended by Hon. Solomon Bonu, Commissioner for Home Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Layode, traditional and religious leaders, and local government chairmen.
The late Akran joined his ancestors in January 2026 at 89, after a 48-year reign over the Badagry Kingdom.
