The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has called for stronger inter-agency collaboration to advance inclusive governance under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda.

Eko Hot News reports that the General Manager of LASODA, Mrs Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, made the call during a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Law Reform Commission in Ikeja

She stressed that inclusion is a core pillar of the THEMES Plus Agenda and requires deliberate, strategic action to ensure Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) are not left behind.

Mrs Oyetunde-Lawal urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to embed disability inclusion into their policies, programmes and operations.

She also advocated for the review and update of existing laws to reflect the diverse needs of persons with disabilities across the state.

The LASODA boss specifically called for the production of laws in Braille to enhance accessibility for visually impaired persons.

She further recommended institutionalising sign language interpreters at official events to ensure effective participation of persons with hearing impairments.

According to her, MDAs must be held accountable when drafting policies, ensuring disability inclusion is a key consideration in legal frameworks.

Responding, Executive Secretary of the Law Reform Commission, Mrs Yemisi Ogunlola, disclosed that some laws have been translated into Yoruba to promote broader accessibility.

She added that the Commission would explore producing laws in Braille and expressed readiness to establish a technical working group with LASODA.

The engagement signals renewed efforts to strengthen inclusive law reform and accessible governance in Lagos State.
