Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has described his emergence as the Oloja of Lagos-elect as a call to service, saying the traditional role comes with enormous responsibility to the people and heritage of Lagos.

Eko Hot News reports that the respected actor and Lagos prince was formally presented and recognised as the Oloja of Lagos-elect following consultations within the King Kosoko Royal Family, ending years of vacancy in the revered position.

Speaking during a telephone interview, Jide Kosoko expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him, noting that the selection was based on trust, acceptability, and his commitment to service. He said the role is not about personal prestige but about preserving culture and serving the Lagos people.

The veteran actor stressed that his background in public engagement and cultural advocacy has prepared him for the task ahead. He acknowledged that the throne demands wisdom, patience, and a deep understanding of Lagos traditions.

Reacting to the development, Nollywood actor and Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners president, Bolaji Amusan, popularly known as Mr Latin, congratulated Jide Kosoko, describing the selection as well-deserved. He said the choice reflects Kosoko’s integrity, intelligence, and broad acceptability.

Mr Latin added that Kosoko’s emergence further dispels misconceptions about actors, noting that many practitioners are responsible citizens making positive contributions to society and governance.

With the appointment, Jide Kosoko becomes one of the few Nigerian actors to ascend a traditional stool, joining Okey Bakassi, who was crowned king in his Imo State community. The development highlights the increasing intersection of arts, leadership, and cultural preservation.

The Oloja of Lagos stool became vacant following the passing of its former occupant several years ago, making the new selection significant for the continuity of traditional authority within the Lagos Island axis.

Members of the King Kosoko Royal Family described the process as thorough and inclusive, emphasising that the choice was guided by tradition and the collective interest of the community.

Observers say the emergence of Jide Kosoko is expected to strengthen cultural unity and promote Lagos heritage locally and internationally.

As he prepares to assume full responsibilities, the Oloja of Lagos-elect has pledged to uphold the values of peace, service, and cultural pride, reaffirming his commitment to being a bridge between tradition and modern society.
