The Lagos State Office of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has moved to strengthen accountability and results-based governance through a Peer Review Mechanism milestone strategy session.

Eko Hot News reports that the session was convened to improve programme and project performance reporting across the Office of SDGs.

The strategy session was held on January 22, 2025, at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ikeja.

It brought together management staff of the SDGs Office, members of the Technical Peer Review team, and officials from the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget.

Opening the session, the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Sustainable Development Goals, Mrs Kaphayah Olayemi Sarumi, said the engagement reinforces Lagos State’s commitment to accountability and transparency.

She noted that the initiative aligns with the development agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

Mrs Sarumi stated that effective governance depends on credible data, clear benchmarks, and robust reporting systems.

She stressed that performance reports must clearly demonstrate impact and value for public funds.

According to her, the SDGs Office plays a key coordination role in tracking and reporting government interventions.

She explained that this responsibility cuts across state priorities, national frameworks, and global development commitments.

Mrs Sarumi described the Peer Review Mechanism as a platform for improving data quality and inter-agency collaboration.

She added that accurate reporting is critical for informed decision-making at the highest levels of government.

The Permanent Secretary urged participants to address data gaps with openness and professionalism.

She encouraged the adoption of best practices to improve consistency and credibility in reporting.

Technical sessions featured presentations from the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget.

Mr Kadiri, Chief Planning Officer, spoke on using the Medium-Term Sector Strategy to align government objectives with the SDGs.

Another presentation by Mr Adegoke Ariyo focused on the Performance Management Review Framework.

He highlighted the role of Key Performance Indicators in tracking implementation and accountability.

Also speaking, the Head of Planning Unit, Mr Salu Yakubu, urged participants to convert discussions into concrete actions.

He said stronger monitoring and evaluation systems are essential for improved SDGs delivery.
