The Lagos State Government has inaugurated the Lagos State Health Scheme Enforcement Team to drive compliance with the Executive Order on Mandatory Social Health Insurance and advance universal health coverage across the State.
Eko Hot News reports that the inauguration was performed by the Head of Service, Mr Bode Agoro, at the Conference Room of the Public Service Office, Office of the Head of Service, Alausa.
In his keynote address, Mr Agoro explained that the Executive Order, signed by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, is designed to strengthen the Lagos State Health Scheme and ensure that all residents have access to quality healthcare regardless of financial status.

He noted that the Enforcement Team is made up of representatives from key regulatory and oversight institutions and will be responsible for ensuring strict compliance, transparency, and accountability in the implementation of the health insurance policy.
“Enforcement is not punitive; it is a governance tool to ensure compliance, accountability, and the translation of policy into tangible outcomes for our people,” the Head of Service stated.

Mr Agoro urged Accounting Officers across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to fully comply with the Executive Order by enrolling all ad-hoc staff into the scheme and prominently displaying the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) registration link on their official websites.
He stressed that government institutions must take the lead in setting an example for private sector participation and public adherence to the mandatory health insurance initiative.

The inauguration ceremony attracted top government officials and stakeholders, underscoring the importance of the scheme to the State’s health sector reforms.
Dignitaries in attendance included the Special Adviser to the Governor on Parastatals Monitoring Office, Hon. Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro, the Director-General of the National Health Insurance Agency, Dr Kelechi Ohiri, members of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, and the Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences, CSP Adetayo Akerele.
