LASG Pledges More Housing, Moves Against Abandoned Buildings

The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to decent housing while intensifying efforts to address the growing challenge of abandoned buildings across the state.

Eko Hot News reports that the assurance was given by the Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, while reviewing the Ministry’s performance in 2025 and outlining priorities for 2026 under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The Commissioner disclosed that the completion of all ongoing housing projects remains a top priority, with a firm target for delivery by 2026 in line with the Governor’s vision and the THEMES Plus Agenda.

He highlighted the successful delivery and commissioning of the Akinsanya Sunny Ajose Housing Scheme and the Abraham Adesanya Housing Estate, Parcels A and B, as major milestones recorded by the Ministry in 2025.

Akinderu-Fatai charged heads of departments to ensure quality planning and excellent delivery across all project sites, stressing the need to complete Sangotedo Phase II, Egan-Igando Clusters II and III, Ibeshe Phase II, and ongoing joint venture housing projects for commissioning.

He added that the Ministry would continue to collaborate with private developers, financial institutions, and other stakeholders to accelerate housing delivery and make more shelters available to Lagos residents.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Engr. Abdulhafis Toriola, reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to providing safe, sustainable, and affordable homes for Lagosians.

He made the remarks during a New Year prayer session with management and staff, where he emphasized values such as hard work, integrity, justice, and dedication to duty.

Engr. Toriola further revealed that the State Government is intensifying action on abandoned buildings in line with the LASRERA Law, noting that interventions will focus on completing such properties to boost housing stock.

He explained that addressing abandoned buildings will improve urban aesthetics, enhance public safety, and contribute to sustainable development across Lagos State.
