The Nigerian Police Force has paused its crackdown on illegally tinted vehicle windows following confirmation of a Federal High Court interim injunction suspending the exercise.
Eko Hot News reports that the enforcement drive, which targeted vehicles with window films darker than legally permitted, had led to arrests, fines, and vehicle impoundments in various states and the Federal Capital Territory. Motorists affected by the campaign had approached the court, challenging the legality of the operation.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that police officers have been instructed to immediately suspend the enforcement, pending further judicial guidance. He urged motorists and members of the public to comply with all lawful directives during this period.
Adejobi emphasised that the Nigerian Police Force remains committed to public safety, noting that the suspension ensures enforcement actions align with legal processes and respect citizens’ rights.

The tinted window campaign was initially introduced to enhance road safety and security by regulating vehicle visibility. However, some drivers had expressed concerns, describing the enforcement as arbitrary and punitive, with several cases of harassment and vehicle seizure reported.
Authorities have assured that no further operations will take place until the court delivers its ruling on the substantive suit, signalling the need for law enforcement to balance public safety and legal compliance.

Members of the public are advised to remain law-abiding, adhere to traffic regulations, and await official updates from the police on the resumption of any enforcement activities.
