The Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Sports, in collaboration with the Office of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has organized the 2025 Sports Fiesta.

Eko Hot News reports that the event took place at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park, Yaba, bringing together youths and community members for both physical and intellectual sporting activities aimed at fostering holistic development.

The Sports Fiesta featured basketball and chess, combining physical fitness with mental agility. While basketball promoted teamwork, discipline, and endurance, chess challenged participants’ critical thinking, strategy, and problem-solving abilities.

In the basketball category, Ravens Academy emerged champions after an exciting 33–27 victory over First Deepwater. The match thrilled spectators as Ravens Academy maintained dominance from the opening tip-off to the final whistle.

Beatrice Mark of Ravens Academy was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament, earning accolades for her outstanding performance. Her achievement highlighted the growing impact of female participation and excellence in competitive sports.

In the chess category, Patrick Floresaint and Ogunfowoke Veronica emerged joint winners after winning all their matches unbeaten. Both players received cash prizes, reflecting their dedication, consistency, and mastery of the game.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sports, Mr. Damilare Orimoloye, said the Sports Fiesta was designed to promote inclusion, reduce inequality, and strengthen community cohesion through sports.

Orimoloye revealed plans to expand the Sports Fiesta across the IBILE divisions in 2026, reaffirming the government’s commitment to gender equality and youth empowerment. He also appreciated Governor Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Sports Commission, and the SDGs Office for their support.

Also speaking, the Head of Outreach and Advocacy at the SDGs Office, Mrs. Ariyo Idowu, noted that the initiative aligns with global development goals, particularly youth empowerment, gender equality, teamwork, and community engagement.
