Prime Minister Mark Carney and U.S. President Donald Trump are scheduled for a brief meeting on Friday at the Kennedy Centre in Washington, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Eko Hot News reports that Carney will also hold a separate meeting with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, who is likewise set to meet privately with President Trump.

The three leaders will be in Washington for the FIFA World Cup draw, which will determine the tournament’s group compositions involving their nations.
Carney had previously indicated he expected to encounter Trump at the event, but did not confirm a formal meeting. He remarked that he would “see the president around there.”

Relations between Canada and the U.S. remain tense due to a trade dispute. Talks broke off in October following a controversial Ontario ad featuring former President Ronald Reagan criticising U.S. tariffs.
Carney has since issued an apology and stated Canada is ready to resume negotiations. U.S. Ambassador to Canada, Pete Hoekstra, has expressed scepticism that a deal will be reached before the new year.
