The Lagos State Government has extended its maternal and child health initiative by distributing over 300 food packs and vitamin supplements to indigent pregnant women in Health District IV.
Eko Hot News reports that the distribution took place at Akerele Primary Healthcare Centre, Surulere, where the Permanent Secretary, Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Engr. Sholabomi Shasore, reaffirmed the LASG’s commitment to ensuring proper nutrition for pregnant women and their unborn children. She noted that building a peaceful and progressive Lagos begins with giving every child a fair start from conception.
Shasore highlighted that civically responsible citizens are nurtured from the womb, stressing that global research shows early-life events significantly shape long-term development. She added that more than 6,280 beneficiaries have been supported across all six health districts since the programme’s inception, underscoring the LASG’s dedication to mothers, infants, and children.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of Health District IV, Dr Abimbola Bowale, described pregnancy as a journey filled with hope and love, acknowledging the challenges many women face. He emphasised that the LASG remains committed to ensuring mothers and newborns enjoy a healthier start in life, noting that strong families contribute to a prosperous society.
Bowale further explained that the Mother, Infant and Child Development Programme is a compassionate initiative designed to support healthy pregnancies, enhance neonatal brain development, and assist indigent expectant mothers across the state.
The event featured the distribution of nutritious food packs, essential vitamins, and supplements aimed at promoting healthy pregnancies and reducing malnutrition within the Surulere community.
