The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has restored the free flow of traffic along Emmanuel Street, Maryland, following an enforcement exercise against indiscriminate parking in the area.
Eko Hot News reports that the operation was carried out after illegal parking around Leola Hotel caused heavy traffic congestion on Emmanuel Street and adjoining roads.
The General Manager of LASPA, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, said the traffic build-up resulted from a well-attended event at the hotel, which attracted a large number of visitors.
According to her, the high turnout led to parking overflow, with several vehicles parked improperly along Emmanuel Street and nearby junctions.
She explained that the situation disrupted traffic movement and affected motorists using the route.
Mrs. Adelabu said LASPA’s enforcement officers quickly intervened to restore order by ensuring compliance with the Lagos State parking regulations.
She disclosed that 14 vehicles found violating the State’s parking rules were clamped during the operation.
The General Manager noted that the enforcement exercise helped ease congestion and restored normal vehicular movement along Emmanuel Street and surrounding roads.
She added that the operation was not limited to enforcement alone, as LASPA officials also embarked on public sensitisation during the exercise.
According to her, hotel staff, motorists and event attendees were educated on responsible parking practices and the importance of complying with the State’s parking regulations.
Mrs. Adelabu said the awareness campaign was aimed at preventing future traffic disruptions and encouraging voluntary compliance with parking rules.
She also revealed that the management of Leola Hotel was penalised over the indiscriminate parking associated with the event.
Following the completion of the enforcement process and necessary compliance procedures, all clamped vehicles were released in line with the Authority’s operational guidelines.
The LASPA boss stressed that compliance with parking regulations is essential to maintaining order on Lagos roads and improving traffic management across the state.
She urged owners and operators of event centres, hotels and hospitality businesses to make adequate parking arrangements before hosting events.
According to her, proper parking plans will help minimise congestion, improve road safety and enhance the overall commuting experience for residents.
Mrs. Adelabu noted that businesses have a shared responsibility to ensure that activities within their premises do not obstruct public roads or inconvenience other road users.
She reiterated LASPA’s commitment to promoting organised parking and improving traffic flow through regular monitoring and enforcement.
The Authority, she said, will continue to engage stakeholders while ensuring that parking regulations are fully observed across Lagos State.
Residents and motorists were also encouraged to cooperate with parking officials and comply with established guidelines to support a more efficient transport system.
LASPA explained that responsible parking contributes to smoother traffic movement, improves accessibility and creates a safer environment for all road users.
The Authority reaffirmed its resolve to sustain enforcement and public enlightenment initiatives aimed at reducing indiscriminate parking in strategic locations across the state.
Officials expressed confidence that stronger cooperation between government, businesses and motorists will further improve traffic management and enhance mobility throughout Lagos.
