The Lagos State Government has strengthened its commitment to technology-driven education with the distribution of tablet devices to junior secondary schools across the state under the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) Programme.
Eko Hot News reports that the presentation ceremony was held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in Alausa, Ikeja, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance digital learning, improve education management and promote evidence-based decision-making in schools.
The BESDA Programme is a collaborative initiative of the World Bank, the Federal Ministry of Education and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), designed to improve education service delivery and strengthen school administration across participating states.
Speaking at the event, the Director of the Project Planning and Research Department, Mr. Opeyemi Martins, announced that every participating junior secondary school would receive 30GB of monthly data from Airtel to support internet connectivity and facilitate effective teaching, learning and digital administration.
According to Martins, the data support initiative will ensure that schools can maximise the use of the tablet devices while improving access to online educational resources and digital reporting platforms.
Also speaking, the Director of Basic Education Services, Mrs. Toyin Oyedele, reminded school administrators that the tablets remain government property and should be properly maintained for institutional use.
She stressed that the devices are not personal assets of teachers or principals, urging beneficiaries to ensure that the tablets are handed over to their successors whenever they are transferred or redeployed.
“You must take good care of them and guard them diligently. Whenever you are transferred or posted out of your station, ensure that you leave the tablet behind for your successor,” she said.
Stakeholders at the event described the initiative as a major milestone in Lagos State’s digital transformation agenda for the education sector, noting that the deployment of the tablets will enhance data collection, monitoring, reporting and strategic planning across schools.
They added that the digital devices would improve the management of basic and secondary education while supporting informed policy decisions aimed at raising learning outcomes.
In the first phase of the programme, 160 tablet devices were distributed to designated junior secondary schools across Lagos State, with plans already in place to extend the initiative to all junior secondary schools in the state.
The distribution forms part of the Lagos State Government’s broader efforts, in partnership with the World Bank, the Federal Ministry of Education and UBEC, to leverage technology in strengthening the education system.
The initiative is also expected to improve accountability, promote data-driven policy formulation and ensure that schools are equipped with the digital tools required to deliver quality education more efficiently.
As implementation continues, the BESDA Programme is expected to significantly improve education management processes while supporting sustainable improvements in teaching, learning and educational service delivery across Lagos State.
