The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to strengthen food security with plans for the commissioning of the Mid-level Agro Food Hub in Agege, a project designed to improve food distribution, support businesses and enhance access to fresh produce.
Eko Hot News reports that the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Mrs. Ruth Abisola Olusanya, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Fatai Audu, paid a courtesy visit to the Agege Local Government Secretariat to discuss preparations for the commissioning of the facility.
The meeting brought together state and local government officials to review the project’s readiness and reaffirm their commitment to improving food supply across Lagos State.
Discussions focused on the strategic role of the Mid-level Agro Food Hub in supporting the Lagos State Food Security Agenda and the Produce for Lagos initiative.
According to the Commissioner, the Agro Food Hub has been designed to provide organised storage facilities, modern trading floors and adequate parking spaces for farmers, traders and consumers.
She explained that the facility will improve the movement and distribution of agricultural produce while ensuring that residents have easier access to fresh and affordable food.
Mrs. Olusanya noted that the project represents a significant investment in strengthening the agricultural value chain and promoting sustainable food systems across Lagos.
She added that the Agro Food Hub is expected to reduce post-harvest losses by providing improved storage facilities for agricultural products.
