The Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has commenced a three-day induction programme for 1,050 newly recruited education officers and instructors as part of efforts to strengthen the quality of teaching and learning in public secondary schools across the state.

Eko Hot News reports that the induction programme, themed “Transforming Learning for a Dynamic Future: The Educators’ Role,” is designed to equip the newly employed teachers with the professional knowledge, teaching skills and ethical values required to excel in the Lagos State Public Service.

The opening ceremony, held at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, brought together education stakeholders and government officials who reiterated the state’s commitment to building a world-class education system through continuous investment in teachers and educational development.

Declaring the programme open on behalf of the Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Establishment, Training, Pension and Public Service, Hon. Oladele Ajayi, the Committee Secretary, Mr. Tugbobo Ademola Ayodele, described the induction as a critical step in preparing newly recruited teachers for the responsibilities of shaping future generations.

According to Ajayi, the programme is designed to re-orient, equip and strengthen the capabilities of educators while exposing them to the ethics, values and modern teaching techniques required in today’s classrooms.

He urged the inductees to recognise their strategic role in nation-building by serving as agents of positive change capable of nurturing future leaders.

He also encouraged the new teachers to embrace technology as an indispensable tool for improving teaching and learning outcomes, stressing that digital innovation has become an essential component of modern education.

Ajayi further advised the teachers to cultivate a culture of continuous learning to remain relevant in an evolving educational landscape and effectively respond to the changing needs of students.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, said the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, through the THEMES+ Agenda, has continued to make significant investments in educational infrastructure, technology, teacher capacity development and staff welfare.

He noted that no education system can outperform the quality of its teachers, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting educators through regular professional development programmes and improved working conditions.

According to the commissioner, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, in collaboration with TESCOM and other stakeholders, will continue to provide opportunities that empower teachers to deliver quality education in line with global best practices.

Alli-Balogun urged the newly recruited teachers to uphold the core values of the Lagos State Public Service, including professionalism, integrity, punctuality, fairness, accountability and respect, while serving as worthy ambassadors of the state.

In her remarks, the Chairman of the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission, Mrs. Victoria Mopelola Peregrino, congratulated the newly recruited education officers and instructors for successfully navigating the commission’s rigorous recruitment process.

She explained that only qualified and competent candidates were selected to strengthen teaching in Lagos public schools, reflecting the government’s determination to improve learning outcomes across the state.
