Donald Trump Jr. attended a pretrial court hearing in Arizona on Monday as proceedings continued in the case involving the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. According to the Associated Press, Trump Jr. sat in the front row alongside family members and supporters of Kirk.
Eko Hot News reports that the defendant, 23-year-old Tyler James Robinson, appeared before the court as prosecutors presented evidence they said established probable cause for charges, including first-degree murder. Robinson has not yet entered a plea in the case.
Court proceedings focused on evidence presented by the prosecution as the judge considered whether there was sufficient basis for the charges to proceed. Robinson, dressed in a gray suit jacket and dark tie, remained largely expressionless during the hearing.
Trump Jr. was joined by conservative commentator Jack Posobiec and members of Kirk’s family. Among those present was Erika Kirk, who now leads Turning Point USA.
Some members of Kirk’s family briefly stepped out of the courtroom before portions of testimony related to the immediate aftermath of the incident. They returned following a court recess.
During the hearing, defence attorney Kathryn Nester challenged elements of the prosecution’s presentation. However, the judge overruled several of the objections raised during cross-examination.
Former Utah Valley University police officer David Bagley testified about items recovered near the scene. He acknowledged discovering an empty pistol holster after people had left the area but said he did not take custody of it or know whether it was examined for forensic evidence.
Bagley also testified that investigators found what appeared to be equipment on a nearby rooftop during the investigation. Prosecutors did not immediately provide further details regarding its significance.
According to prosecutors, investigators also intend to rely on digital communications, witness testimony, surveillance footage, law enforcement recordings, forensic analysis and DNA evidence as part of their case.
Prosecutors further allege that the defendant surrendered to authorities after communicating with his roommate. They say additional evidence will be presented during future stages of the legal process.
The court did not reach a final decision on the charges during Monday’s hearing. The proceedings remain part of the ongoing judicial process, and Robinson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Legal observers say the case is expected to continue attracting national attention because of Charlie Kirk’s prominent role in conservative politics and the attendance of high-profile public figures during court proceedings.
The prosecution and defence are expected to return to court as the case progresses through the legal system. Future hearings will determine the next stages before any trial begins.
