The Lagos State Youth Ambassadors have commenced a Leadership Study Tour at the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, part of the National University of Singapore (NUS). The initiative is designed to equip young leaders with the knowledge, skills and global exposure needed to support governance and sustainable development in Lagos State.
Eko Hot News reports that the international leadership programme is facilitated by the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development. It focuses on strengthening the leadership capacity of the Youth Ambassadors through intensive training in leadership, public policy, project management, civic engagement, innovation and emerging global trends.
The opening session was held under the theme, “Understanding the Lagos Context from a Global Perspective: Challenges and Opportunities.” Participants explored comparative governance models and examined practical approaches to addressing Lagos’ development priorities through globally relevant ideas.
The programme encourages the Youth Ambassadors to identify innovative solutions that can be adapted to improve governance and community development in Lagos State. It also promotes collaboration, critical thinking and strategic decision-making among the participants.
Throughout the study tour, the ambassadors will receive practical training in Design Thinking, Digital and Artificial Intelligence-enabled innovation, personal leadership, cognitive bias awareness and project management. These competencies are expected to prepare them for impactful leadership roles within their communities.
The programme also seeks to strengthen participants’ ability to design and implement community-based initiatives that contribute to the socio-economic development of Lagos State. Organisers said the training combines academic learning with practical leadership experience.
Speaking on the significance of the initiative, the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, described the programme as a reflection of the Lagos State Government’s commitment to nurturing competent, innovative and socially responsible young leaders.
According to the commissioner, exposing the Youth Ambassadors to international best practices will broaden their perspectives and prepare them to contribute meaningfully to public service and community development. He noted that global exposure remains an important element of leadership development.
Mr. Ogunlende added that the programme aligns with the THEMES+ Development Agenda of the administration. He said the initiative reinforces the government’s vision of preparing young people for leadership in an increasingly interconnected world.
Participants are also expected to engage with faculty members, policy experts and fellow learners during the study tour. These interactions will provide opportunities for knowledge exchange and a deeper understanding of international governance practices.
The Ministry noted that the leadership programme forms part of its broader strategy to empower young Lagosians through education, mentorship and global partnerships. It expressed confidence that the ambassadors will return with valuable insights that will benefit their communities.
Officials further stated that the initiative reflects Lagos State’s continued investment in youth development and leadership excellence. They believe the programme will inspire participants to champion innovation and public service across different sectors.
The Ministry expressed appreciation to Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his continued support for youth-focused initiatives. It also acknowledged the contributions of Kadri Obafemi Hamzat in advancing programmes that provide global learning opportunities for young people.
The leadership study tour is expected to enhance the ambassadors’ capacity to contribute to policy development, civic participation and sustainable growth. Organisers said the knowledge gained will strengthen the participants’ ability to support the continued progress of Lagos State.
