NUJ Lagos Honours Retirees

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos Information Chapel, has celebrated its retired members in recognition of their years of dedicated service and contributions to journalism and public information.

Eko Hot News reports that the recognition took place during the Chapel’s Special Congress held at Agidingbi Primary School, where members also honoured the retiring Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Olanrewaju Bajulaiye.

The event coincided with a friendly novelty football match involving Mr. Bajulaiye and the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, as part of activities marking the Permanent Secretary’s retirement.

The celebration brought together journalists, retired professionals, government officials, and members of the Lagos Information Chapel to appreciate years of dedicated public service.

A major highlight of the event was the presentation of football jerseys donated by former Chairman of the NUJ Lagos Information Chapel, Mr. Adewale Akodu.

The jerseys were presented to support sporting activities within the Chapel and promote friendship, teamwork, and unity among members.

A specially designed jersey bearing the number one was dedicated to Mr. Olanrewaju Bajulaiye in recognition of his service and leadership.

The jerseys were officially unveiled by the Chairman of the NUJ Lagos Information Chapel, Comrade Adebowale Adeniji.

In his opening remarks, Adeniji commended the retirees for their commitment to the journalism profession and their lasting contributions to the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy.

He described the retired members as professionals whose dedication helped strengthen public communication and inspire younger journalists.

The chairman encouraged the retirees to enjoy a healthy and fulfilling retirement while remaining active in community development and mentoring younger professionals.

He also urged members of the Chapel to continue promoting unity, professionalism, and cooperation within the union.

Speaking during the event, the retiring Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olanrewaju Bajulaiye, expressed appreciation for the honour bestowed on him while he is still able to celebrate the occasion with colleagues.

He noted that recognising individuals during their lifetime reflects genuine appreciation and strengthens relationships among professionals.

Bajulaiye reminded journalists to uphold professionalism, remain committed to continuous learning, and always represent both themselves and their institutions with integrity.

He encouraged members to stay dedicated to the values of the journalism profession and support one another in advancing the objectives of the union.

The retiring Permanent Secretary also described the NUJ as a respected professional body that provides opportunities for growth, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.

Several members of the Lagos Information Chapel delivered goodwill messages, praising the retirees for their commitment, professionalism, and valuable contributions to journalism.

The event concluded with renewed calls for stronger unity, continuous professional development, and sustained support for initiatives that promote excellence within the Lagos Information Chapel and the journalism profession.
