Randle General Hospital, Surulere, has commended voluntary blood donors and community partners for their commitment to saving lives during activities marking the 2026 World Blood Donor Day.
Eko Hot News reports that the event, themed “One Drop of Humanity: Give Blood, Save Lives,” featured awareness campaigns, sensitisation walks, and voluntary blood donation exercises across Surulere and surrounding communities.
The programme was organised by the hospital’s Blood Transfusion Committee to promote regular blood donation, improve awareness on safe blood supply, and encourage greater public participation in life-saving health initiatives.
The Medical Director and CEO of Randle General Hospital, Dr. Lateefat Omolara Agbaje, represented by Dr. Adabale Abosede, appreciated donors and partners for their turnout and support during the exercise.
She noted that voluntary blood donation plays a critical role in emergency care, maternal health, surgical procedures, and other essential medical services, stressing that a single donation can save multiple lives.
Dr. Agbaje also highlighted health benefits associated with regular donation, including improved cardiovascular health and balanced iron levels, while praising staff and organisers for the smooth execution of the programme.
A major highlight of the event was the participation of Bikers with Attitude and Determination (B.A.D.) Gang, who joined the awareness campaign and rode through key areas in Surulere to sensitise residents on the importance of blood donation.
Members of the group also participated in the donation exercise, demonstrating support for community health and humanitarian service.
Corporate support was also acknowledged, including contributions from Multipro Consumer Products Limited, whose involvement helped boost the success of the awareness drive.
World Blood Donor Day is observed globally on June 14 to recognise voluntary donors and raise awareness on the need for safe and adequate blood supply in healthcare systems.
