The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reassured officers of the Nigeria Police Force that ongoing reform discussions will not undermine their careers, welfare, or institutional stability.

Eko Hot News reports that the police chief gave the assurance during a working visit to Jigawa State, where he addressed concerns surrounding proposed policing reforms, including debates on the creation of State Police.

The IGP emphasized that the reforms are intended to strengthen national security operations and improve efficiency within the policing system.

He noted that the objective is to enhance operational capacity without weakening the Nigeria Police Force as a national institution.

During the visit, the police chief met with Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi to discuss collaboration between security agencies and state authorities.

He also participated in the 8th Executive Committee Meeting of the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council held in Dutse.

The IGP further engaged officers and men of the Jigawa State Police Command as part of his official tour.

Speaking with traditional rulers, he commended the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council for its role in promoting peace and unity across communities.

He specifically acknowledged the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.

The police chief described traditional institutions as vital partners in maintaining peace and security at the grassroots level.

According to him, traditional rulers contribute significantly through intelligence sharing, conflict resolution, and early warning systems.

He stressed that stronger collaboration between traditional leaders and security agencies would enhance crime prevention efforts.
