The Lagos State Government has issued a flood alert for residents across 16 communities, warning of possible heavy rainfall, flash floods, and rising water levels between June 14 and June 21, 2026.
Eko Hot News reports that the warning was issued by the Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources, Mahamood Adegbite, following a flood outlook released by the Federal Ministry of Environment.
According to the forecast, several parts of Lagos may experience intense rainfall capable of causing temporary flooding and disruptions in vulnerable locations.
Authorities advised residents living in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain alert and take precautionary measures throughout the forecast period.
Communities identified as being at risk include Apapa, Badagry, Epe, and Eti-Osa, where heavy rainfall and rising water levels are expected.
Other areas listed in the advisory are Ikeja, Ikorodu, Ikoyi, Lagos Island, Lekki, Ojo, Orile-Agege, Surulere, Agege, Alimosho, and Kosofe.
The Federal Ministry of Environment noted that some locations could experience overflowing drainage channels and temporary water accumulation.
Officials urged residents to avoid dumping waste into drainage systems, stressing that blocked channels often worsen flooding incidents.
The government also encouraged motorists to exercise caution while driving during periods of heavy rainfall.
Residents were advised to avoid flooded roads, waterways, and areas known for poor drainage whenever rainfall intensifies.
