President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Eko Hot News reports that Aina will officially take over from Professor Ishaq Oloyede when his tenure expires on July 31, 2026.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

Professor Aina is a Computer Engineering expert at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, with strong experience in digital systems and institutional reforms.

He is described as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in Computer Engineering and a specialist in ICT-driven examination systems.

According to the Presidency, Aina has over 15 years of experience in digital transformation, public sector reforms and examination technology management.

He holds academic qualifications in Computer Systems Engineering, Internet Computing, Network Security and Digital Signal Processing.

His academic journey includes degrees from the University of Kent and Loughborough University in the United Kingdom.

Aina is also reported to have completed executive training at the Lagos Business School, strengthening his leadership and management skills.

The statement noted that he has worked with several examination bodies in Nigeria, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB).

His role in these institutions involved improving ICT systems, examination integrity and digital infrastructure support.

Aina is also a member of several professional organisations in engineering and technology, both in Nigeria and internationally.

These include the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, and global engineering institutions.

Officials say his appointment is part of efforts to strengthen JAMB’s digital operations and maintain integrity in Nigeria’s examination system.

The Presidency expressed confidence that he will build on ongoing reforms introduced under the outgoing registrar.

Professor Oloyede has been credited with several reforms aimed at improving transparency and efficiency within JAMB.

President Tinubu commended Oloyede’s leadership and contributions to the transformation of the examination body.

He stated that Aina’s experience in ICT and institutional development will help advance JAMB’s operations.

Tinubu also expressed confidence that the new registrar will improve service delivery and strengthen accountability within the system.

According to the Presidency, the appointment reflects the government’s commitment to modernising education administration through technology.

Education stakeholders have described the move as a step toward enhancing digital examination processes in Nigeria.

Analysts believe Aina’s background in engineering and digital systems aligns with JAMB’s growing reliance on technology.

The appointment is expected to support ongoing reforms aimed at improving admission processes and examination credibility.

Observers say the transition will be closely watched as JAMB continues to evolve under successive leadership.

Aina is expected to assume full duties after the completion of Oloyede’s tenure in 2026.

The announcement has generated interest within Nigeria’s education sector due to Aina’s relatively young age and technical background.

Stakeholders say his appointment signals a continued focus on innovation and digital transformation in the education system.
