The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has highlighted major milestones achieved under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the state marks the third year of his second term in office.
Eko Hot News reports that the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, presented the achievements during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing.
Osiyemi stated that the Lagos State Government has continued to transform transportation through investments in rail, road, water transport, traffic management, and sustainable mobility initiatives.
According to the commissioner, the administration remains focused on reducing traffic congestion and improving connectivity across different parts of the state.
He explained that several transport projects have either been completed or are currently ongoing to improve movement and support economic activities in Lagos.

Among the key projects highlighted was the expansion of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit system, including the ongoing Blue Line Phase II project from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko.
The commissioner also noted improvements in operations on the Red Line Rail system aimed at increasing passenger movement and reducing travel delays.
Additional train coaches have also been introduced to improve passenger comfort and reduce waiting time at rail stations.
According to the ministry, more than 3.5 million passengers have used the Lagos Blue Rail Line since operations commenced.
The Lagos Bus Services Limited was also reported to have transported over 60 million passengers since inception.

Officials revealed that more than 42,000 commuters currently use Lagos Bus Services Limited buses daily across various routes in the state.
In the area of traffic management, the government carried out junction improvement projects along Toyin Street, Opebi Road, Allen Avenue, and other strategic corridors.
The state also installed intelligent traffic signal lights in areas including Ikeja, Lekki, Ikoyi, Surulere, Epe, Gbagada, and Victoria Island.
The commissioner explained that the traffic signal projects are aimed at improving traffic flow, reducing delays, and enhancing road safety.
Technology-driven transportation initiatives were also highlighted during the briefing as part of efforts to modernise traffic and transport management.

One of the projects introduced is the E-Call Up System designed to regulate truck movement along the Lekki-Epe Corridor.
The government also deployed Automated Number Plate Recognition cameras to strengthen traffic monitoring and improve road management systems.
Digital parking management systems have equally been expanded to support better parking coordination across key locations in Lagos.
The state government further extended the use of the Cowry Card unified payment system across buses, rail services, and ferry transportation.
Officials described the integrated payment system as a major step toward creating a seamless and efficient transportation experience for commuters.
Osiyemi stated that the Sanwo-Olu administration remains committed to building a modern and sustainable transportation network for residents.

He added that ongoing transportation reforms are expected to improve mobility, reduce travel time, and support economic growth across the state.
Stakeholders at the briefing commended the state government for prioritising infrastructure development and embracing technology-driven transport solutions.
Observers also noted that Lagos continues to strengthen its position as one of Africa’s leading megacities through investments in transportation and urban mobility.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining projects and introducing new initiatives that improve the daily commuting experience for residents.
