The Lagos State Government has recorded a major cultural milestone as the J. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History clinched the Outstanding Historic Centre Achievement at the prestigious 32nd Annual Thea Awards held in Orlando.
Eko Hot News reports that the globally recognised awards ceremony, organised by the Themed Entertainment Association, celebrates excellence in themed entertainment and visitor attractions, placing Lagos firmly on the world map for cultural innovation and heritage preservation.

The award-winning centre, located in Onikan, is a state-of-the-art cultural hub designed to showcase Yoruba history, arts, language, and traditions through immersive exhibitions, live performances, and digital storytelling.
Leading the Lagos delegation to the event, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, described the recognition as a validation of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision to position Lagos as a global destination for culture and tourism.

According to her, the J. Randle Centre goes beyond being a traditional museum, serving as a dynamic platform that celebrates Yoruba identity while meeting international standards.
The awards gala attracted global industry leaders, including teams from Walt Disney Imagineering, Universal Creative, and Wētā Workshop, further underscoring the significance of the recognition.
With this achievement, Lagos joins top global destinations such as New Zealand, Las Vegas, Japan, and the United Kingdom in earning accolades for excellence in cultural and themed experiences.
