The LAWMA crackdown on illegal waste operators has intensified as authorities ramp up enforcement activities across major parts of Lagos in a renewed push to maintain environmental sanitation.

Eko Hot News reports that operatives of the Lagos Waste Management Authority Waste Surveillance, Investigation and Enforcement team carried out targeted operations on March 19, 2026, focusing on hotspots including Gbagada, Bariga, and Iwaya.

The enforcement drive was aimed at curbing the activities of illegal cart pushers known for indiscriminate waste collection and dumping at unauthorised locations—practices that continue to undermine efforts to keep Lagos clean.

In a related operation on March 21, 2026, LAWMA operatives apprehended an illegal wheelbarrow pusher during a waste source investigation exercise at a previously cleared black spot beneath the Mile 12 Flyover, opposite the BRT terminal.

Authorities noted that the location had earlier been sanitised, but illegal waste activities resurfaced, prompting renewed surveillance and enforcement intervention.

The ongoing operations underscore LAWMA’s zero-tolerance stance on environmental violations and its commitment to sustaining a cleaner and healthier Lagos.

Residents have been strongly advised to patronise only assigned Private Sector Participation (PSP) waste operators and avoid engaging illegal waste handlers, whose activities contribute significantly to environmental degradation and public health risks.

The agency reaffirmed that enforcement exercises will continue across the state, with offenders facing strict penalties in line with environmental laws.
