The Lagos State Government has dismissed claims that ₦4.2 billion was proposed in the 2026 budget for the purchase of furniture and 30 microphones for the Office of the Deputy Governor.
Eko Hot News reports that the clarification was contained in a statement issued by the Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget.
The government described the report circulating in some online media as inaccurate and a misinterpretation of approved capital provisions.
According to the statement, the total capital allocation for the Office of the Deputy Governor in the 2026 budget is ₦4,247,816,006.
It explained that the entire sum was wrongly portrayed as being meant for furniture and microphones.
The ministry clarified that ₦4,077,816,006 of the allocation is earmarked for the reconstruction of the Round House complex.
The Round House is a six-storey facility housing over 50 offices.
The reconstruction project includes structural upgrades and retrofitting works.
The provision of alternative energy infrastructure for the building is also part of the plan.
The government stated that only ₦170 million of the capital allocation covers office equipment and furniture.

This amount also includes fittings and other essential capital items.
Officials stressed that the budget reflects broader infrastructure and facility improvement efforts.
The ministry reaffirmed that all budgetary provisions follow due process and fiscal discipline.
It added that established accounting standards guide the classification of expenditures.
The statement urged stakeholders and media organisations to verify information through appropriate channels.
The government said accurate reporting is crucial to public understanding of fiscal matters.
It reiterated its commitment to prudent management of public resources.
The ministry expressed regret over any misunderstanding arising from the classification of the budget.
Officials emphasised transparency in the budgeting process.
They maintained that the 2026 capital allocation aims to improve infrastructure within the Deputy Governor’s Office.
Observers say the clarification underscores the importance of careful interpretation of public finance documents.
The Lagos State Government assured residents that funds are allocated to projects that enhance service delivery and institutional capacity.
