The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to promote fire safety awareness in public secondary schools, with a sensitisation programme for students and teachers held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja.
Eko Hot News reports that the programme was organised by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, with technical support from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, as part of measures to reduce fire outbreaks and improve emergency preparedness in schools.
Officials of the Fire and Rescue Service educated participants on common causes of fire incidents in homes and schools, stressing the dangers of electrical faults, careless handling of flammable materials and poor safety habits.

Students and teachers were taken through practical fire prevention tips, including safe use of electrical appliances, proper storage of combustible items and the importance of switching off power sources when not in use.
The session also featured demonstrations on basic fire response actions, highlighting how to raise alarms promptly, evacuate safely and seek help from emergency responders during fire incidents.

Representatives of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education noted that the sensitisation was aimed at empowering students with life-saving knowledge and encouraging them to act as fire safety ambassadors within their schools and communities.
They stressed that creating a culture of safety among young people is critical to reducing avoidable disasters and protecting lives and property across Lagos State.

Participants were encouraged to share the lessons learned with classmates and family members, ensuring that fire safety practices extend beyond the school environment.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service reiterated its commitment to continuous public enlightenment, especially among students, as part of its broader mandate to enhance safety awareness and emergency readiness statewide.

The programme forms part of ongoing government initiatives to promote safer learning environments and strengthen disaster prevention strategies in Lagos public schools.
