The Lagos State Government has restated its commitment to strengthening tourism, arts, culture, and the creative economy as key drivers of economic growth.
Eko Hot News reports that the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, made this known during the 2026 Annual Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Ikeja.
The briefing marked the third year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office and highlighted progress recorded in the sector.
The Commissioner said the ministry remains aligned with the THEMES+ Agenda of the administration in advancing tourism development across the state.
She noted that Lagos continues to be positioned as Africa’s leading destination for tourism, arts, entertainment, and cultural innovation.
According to her, the ministry has implemented several programmes aimed at strengthening the creative economy and attracting global attention.
These initiatives include festivals, cultural exhibitions, heritage preservation efforts, and entertainment partnerships.
She added that youth-focused programmes and capacity-building initiatives have helped empower creatives across different sectors.
The ministry also recorded achievements in tourism promotion, stakeholder engagement, and talent development.
Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka emphasized that Lagos is committed to building a sustainable environment for creatives, investors, and tourism operators.
She explained that community-based tourism initiatives are being strengthened to preserve cultural identity.
The state is also focusing on showcasing Lagos culture to a global audience through strategic events and collaborations.
According to her, cultural preservation remains a core part of the government’s tourism development strategy.
The Commissioner said every project under the ministry is designed to contribute to economic growth and job creation.
She highlighted ongoing efforts to expand infrastructure that supports tourism and creative industry growth.
The ministry also continues to work with local and international partners to expand opportunities in the sector.
She commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his consistent support and visionary leadership.
She also acknowledged the contributions of the Permanent Secretary, Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, alongside ministry staff and stakeholders.
