Lagos State Government has disbursed over ₦701 million to beneficiaries of deceased civil servants, reinforcing its commitment to staff welfare and family support.

Eko Hot News reports that a total of ₦701,054,344.57 was paid to 232 beneficiaries representing 146 public servants who passed away in active service between May 2025 and January 2026.

The cheque presentation ceremony was held at the STO Resource Centre in Alausa, Ikeja, with top government officials and stakeholders in attendance.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Finance, Abayomi Oluyomi, described the payment as a reflection of the compassionate leadership of Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

He noted that the insurance death benefits scheme ensures that families of deceased workers receive support during challenging times. According to him, the initiative demonstrates that the government stands with its workforce beyond active service.

Mr. Oluyomi stated that the benefits symbolise recognition of the dedication and service rendered by the deceased officers. He expressed hope that the funds would help beneficiaries meet immediate needs and maintain stability.

He also advised recipients to make prudent use of the funds. He encouraged investments in education, small businesses, and other initiatives that would secure long-term family well-being.

In his goodwill message, Femi Saheed, Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, urged beneficiaries to prioritise their children’s future and use the support wisely.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mahmud Tajudeen Alao, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to staff welfare. He explained that the insurance scheme was designed to provide continuous support to families of employees.

He praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for strengthening welfare policies and ensuring timely processing of entitlements. He added that transparency and efficiency remain priorities in managing such benefits.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Association of Senior Civil Servants, Segun Balogun, described the initiative as a clear example of people-focused governance.

He encouraged beneficiaries to plan carefully and invest in sustainable ventures. According to him, the support should serve as a foundation for rebuilding and securing their future.

The Managing Director of LASACO Assurance Plc, represented by Muyiwa Anwoju, commended the Lagos State Government for its consistency in supporting families of deceased staff.

He noted that Lagos continues to stand out in prioritising workforce welfare through prompt payment of insurance benefits.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Abisola Modupelola Adebayo expressed appreciation for the timely disbursement. She thanked the government for its support and compassion.

The event highlighted the state’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that public servants and their families are valued and supported at all times.
