The Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced the screening of intending pilgrims for the upcoming Holy Land journey to Israel and Jordan.

Eko Hot News reports that the exercise, which started recently, involves a thorough administrative and medical assessment of all prospective pilgrims. The screening is a collaborative effort between the Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, the National Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC), and other relevant government agencies. It is designed to verify travel documents, ensure the health and medical readiness of pilgrims, and prepare them for the spiritual and logistical aspects of their pilgrimage.

Okudero Gbolabo Omoniyi, Ph.D., Board Secretary of the Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, explained that the screening process combines administrative and medical evaluations. Administrative screening includes verification of travel documents, briefings on the expectations while abroad, and ensuring that all participants comply with the host countries’ laws and regulations. The medical assessment ensures that the pilgrims are physically fit and equips the medical team with necessary information to provide the right medications and interventions for the journey.

Omoniyi emphasized that proper preparation is crucial for a successful pilgrimage. “Pilgrims must be medically fit and well-prepared to ensure a smooth and safe journey. The exercise is aimed at protecting their health and ensuring they represent Lagos State and Nigeria with integrity,” he said. The screening also provides an opportunity to educate pilgrims on best practices, health precautions, and the cultural norms of Israel and Jordan.

Reverend Bukola Adeleke, Special Adviser to the Governor on Christian Religious Matters, commended the pilgrims for their trust in Lagos State’s pilgrimage services. He highlighted the spiritual significance of the journey, encouraging participants to offer prayers for the nation’s leadership and the wellbeing of citizens during these challenging times. Adeleke stressed that spiritual preparation, alongside physical and administrative readiness, is central to a meaningful pilgrimage experience.

Bishop (Prof) Stephen Adegbite, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to ensuring a safe and successful pilgrimage. He noted that measures have been put in place to prevent abscondment and safeguard the overall welfare of Nigerian pilgrims while in Israel and Jordan. Adegbite also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s support for pilgrimage initiatives in Nigeria, stressing that federal backing strengthens the organization, improves coordination, and enhances the safety of all participants.

The Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board continues to stress the importance of adherence to guidelines, highlighting that both medical fitness and compliance with travel protocols are essential for a seamless and secure journey. Pilgrims are being educated on expected behaviors, cultural sensitivities, and the significance of representing their state and country positively abroad.

This screening process also serves as an opportunity for pilgrims to receive guidance on managing personal health needs, accessing medical support during travel, and understanding emergency protocols. By conducting this detailed evaluation, the Board aims to prevent health or administrative issues during the pilgrimage and ensure that all participants can focus fully on the spiritual experience.
