The Lagos State Government has strengthened its commitment to transparency, accountability, and long-term development through the institutionalisation of sustainability reporting across public institutions.

Eko Hot News reports that the initiative was reinforced during the Executive Sustainability Reporting Strategic Alignment Meeting and the second phase of a capacity-building programme held in Alausa, Ikeja.

The programme is designed to integrate sustainability principles into governance and improve service delivery across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

The Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Ope George, said Lagos must continue to adopt global standards as Africa’s fastest-growing megacity.

He noted that sustainability reporting will help strengthen responsible resource management and improve long-term planning across the state.

The Executive Secretary and CEO of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, Rabiu Olowo, said Lagos’ adoption of international standards will improve financial and sustainability disclosures.

He explained that the IFRS S1 and S2 frameworks will enhance reporting on environmental, social, and governance performance.

Olowo said the initiative will also improve climate risk management and public sector efficiency.
