Legendary Super Eagles Goalkeeper Peter Rufai has passed on.

Eko Hot News reports that the 61-year-old legendary Super Eagles goalkeeper died after a long illness on Thursday morning, July 3, 2025.

Rufai, known as Dodomayana, had an illustrious career, earning 65 caps for the national team, including appearances in two World Cups and the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) triumph.

According to Radio Nigeria, a top Lagos State Government official confirmed the death of Peter Rufai though the family is yet to announce the death.

The death of the legendary goalkeeper of the Super Eagles comes on the same day Liverpool forward Diogo Jota died in a car accident in Spain at the age of 28.
