Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Folashade Bada Ambrose, joined top dignitaries to commemorate International Women’s Day at an event organised by Zenith Bank Plc on Monday. The programme was held under the theme “Take It; You Own It,” celebrating women’s leadership, enterprise and economic participation.
Eko Hot News reports that the event brought together prominent leaders including the First Lady of Lagos State, Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, and Group Managing Director/CEO of Zenith Bank Plc, Adaora Umeoji.
The gathering provided a platform for dialogue on advancing opportunities for women in business and leadership.
Speaking during the programme, Ambrose emphasised that empowering women remains vital for sustainable economic growth. She noted that strengthening the participation of women in enterprise development can significantly expand economic opportunities across communities.

The Commissioner highlighted that the Lagos State Government continues to implement policies that support entrepreneurship and improve access to economic opportunities.
According to her, these initiatives are designed to encourage business growth, particularly among women who operate within the micro and informal enterprise sectors.
Ambrose also acknowledged the leadership of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for prioritising programmes that stimulate enterprise development and inclusive economic participation. She said the administration remains committed to strengthening the capacity of women entrepreneurs across the state.

She further commended the management of Zenith Bank Plc for organising the event and creating a platform that promotes advocacy for women’s advancement. According to her, such initiatives help highlight the contributions of women while encouraging more participation in economic activities.
The celebration also featured discussions on leadership, innovation and financial empowerment for women in various sectors. Participants shared insights on building resilience, expanding professional networks and strengthening business opportunities for women-led enterprises.

Industry leaders at the event emphasised the importance of collaboration between the private sector and government institutions in supporting women’s development. They noted that financial access, mentorship and enterprise support programmes are key factors that can help women grow sustainable businesses.
The International Women’s Day celebration concluded with renewed commitments from stakeholders to continue championing policies and initiatives that promote gender inclusion, enterprise growth and leadership opportunities for women across Lagos and beyond.
