The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has intensified its operational activities across the state ahead of the Easter celebrations, urging residents to maintain proper waste disposal practices.
Eko Hot News reports that the agency is strengthening its systems to ensure a clean environment and prevent flooding during the festive period.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed this at the Authority’s headquarters on Thursday.
He explained that additional monitoring measures have been introduced to support seamless waste evacuation across the metropolis.
According to him, the festive season often leads to increased waste generation, requiring both service providers and residents to act responsibly.

Dr. Gbadegesin noted that LAWMA has deployed extra operational resources to ensure prompt and efficient waste collection throughout the period.
He emphasised that maintaining environmental cleanliness is essential, especially as Lagos prepares for increased human and commercial activities during Easter.
The LAWMA boss encouraged residents to adopt simple waste reduction habits in their daily activities.
He advised Lagosians to avoid unnecessary purchases, reuse materials where possible, and separate recyclable items from general waste.

He further highlighted that proper sorting of waste would improve recycling efforts and reduce environmental pressure.
To enhance service delivery, LAWMA has positioned personnel and equipment at critical locations across the state.
These include markets, motor parks, and other high-traffic commercial areas where waste generation is typically high.
The agency is also working closely with licensed Private Sector Participant (PSP) operators to maintain regular domestic waste evacuation.
Dr. Gbadegesin stated that the collaboration aims to quickly address service gaps and ensure uninterrupted waste collection.
He stressed the importance of responsible waste disposal practices among residents.
According to him, indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainage channels, road medians, and open spaces must be avoided.

He explained that such practices could obstruct the free flow of water, increasing the risk of flooding as the rainy season approaches.
The LAWMA chief reiterated that environmental sustainability requires collective responsibility.
He urged residents, service providers, and government agencies to work together in maintaining a clean Lagos.
Dr. Gbadegesin assured residents of LAWMA’s continued commitment to improving service delivery.
He noted that the agency remains focused on operational efficiency, infrastructure upgrades, and public awareness campaigns.
He added that LAWMA will continue to educate residents on proper waste management practices.
The Authority also plans to sustain engagement initiatives aimed at promoting environmental responsibility.

Residents were encouraged to comply with waste management guidelines for a healthier environment.
Dr. Gbadegesin reaffirmed that LAWMA is committed to ensuring Lagos remains clean, safe, and livable.
He noted that sustained cooperation from the public would enhance the effectiveness of waste management efforts.
The agency believes that proactive measures will significantly reduce environmental challenges during the festive season.
Stakeholders have also commended LAWMA for its proactive approach to waste management.
They noted that consistent efforts in waste control contribute to public health and urban sustainability.
As Easter approaches, residents are expected to play their part in keeping their surroundings clean.

LAWMA’s intensified operations reflect the state’s broader commitment to environmental sustainability.
The initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to promote a cleaner and more resilient Lagos.
Authorities remain optimistic that improved waste management practices will yield lasting benefits.
The renewed focus on cleanliness is expected to enhance the overall quality of life for residents.
