The Education District I sports festival delivered excitement and inspiration as students, educators, and dignitaries gathered for the 2026 edition of the annual event held at the Dairy Farm School Complex.
Eko Hot News reports that the colourful festival brought together participants from across the district in a vibrant celebration of unity, excellence, and youthful energy.
At the centre of the event was the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Idowu Olufunke Oyetola, whose leadership and active participation set the tone for a memorable outing.

In her welcome address, Dr. Oyetola acknowledged the presence of key dignitaries, including former Permanent Secretary Modupe David and the Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA, Busari. She also expressed appreciation to Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, and the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun.
She emphasised the importance of sports in fostering discipline, unity, and youth empowerment, urging participants to compete with integrity and fairness.
One of the standout moments of the festival was the grand parade, where students from Agege, Ifako-Ijaiye, and Alimosho showcased remarkable coordination, discipline, and pride.
In a rare and inspiring gesture, Dr. Oyetola joined the parade, marching alongside the students—a move that energized the crowd and demonstrated her commitment to hands-on leadership.
The sporting activities featured thrilling competitions, including the 100-meter junior race, 800-meter endurance race, and a highly engaging football match that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.
A major highlight was the high table relay race, where Dr. Oyetola displayed exceptional agility and competitive spirit, emerging in first position to loud cheers from the audience.

At the end of the competitions, Agege clinched the overall victory with an outstanding performance. Ifako-Ijaiye finished as first runner-up, while Alimosho secured the second runner-up position, with all teams earning praise for their sportsmanship.
The event concluded with appreciation for organisers, staff, and participants whose collective efforts ensured the success of the festival.
Beyond competition, the 2026 edition of the Education District I sports festival stood as a powerful celebration of unity, leadership, and excellence among Lagos students.
