Nigeria and the United Kingdom have formalised three major agreements to strengthen cooperation on migration management, border security, and business mobility.

Eko Hot  News reports that the agreements include a Memorandum of Understanding on Migration Partnership, and two Statements of Intent covering organised immigration crime and expanded business visas.

Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, signed the agreements during official engagements in the UK, highlighting the country’s commitment to a transparent and orderly migration system that aligns with national and international obligations.

Tunji-Ojo emphasised that the partnership reflects the shared goal of both nations to establish a framework that benefits citizens while addressing irregular migration and security challenges.

He expressed confidence that the agreements would deliver measurable results within a year.

The Minister also linked the business visa expansion to economic growth, noting that facilitating trade and mobility supports Nigeria’s ambition of becoming a trillion-dollar economy by removing barriers to investment.

UK Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood praised Nigeria’s role as a key partner in migration cooperation, noting the agreements as a model for similar partnerships with other countries.

The UK Trade Envoy to Nigeria, Florence Eshalomi, added that the expanded business visa scheme will boost trade ties and create clear economic benefits for both nations.

The agreements are expected to enhance Nigeria’s capacity to tackle organised immigration crime, improve border security, and promote smoother business operations for companies across both markets.
