The Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has expressed readiness to collaborate with the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) to strengthen teachers’ capacity development in Lagos State.

Eko Hot News reports that the TESCOM Chairman, Victoria Mopelola Peregrino, gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by members of the Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona School of Governance (OSKASOG), led by Razaq Olabunmi, Director of Research and Training, at the Commission’s office in Ikeja.

The proposed partnership aims to enhance the professional competence of post-primary school teachers.
It also aligns with the state government’s commitment to continuous workforce training in the education sector.

Peregrino stated that TESCOM places a high premium on the training and retraining of teachers, particularly in post-primary schools, noting that the collaboration would further strengthen TESCOM teachers capacity development across the state.

She described the partnership as a welcome development, emphasising that continuous professional development remains critical to improving teaching standards and learning outcomes.

Speaking on behalf of the Board, Commissioner II representing Ikeja Division, Abiodun Bamgboye, alongside the Permanent Secretary, Olawale Ojikutu, highlighted the longstanding collaboration between Lagos State Government and NIPSS in training senior government officials on key policy issues.

They expressed satisfaction that the institute is extending its capacity-building initiatives to the Teaching Service Commission.

Earlier, Olabunmi explained that the Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona School of Governance, an affiliate of NIPSS, focuses on research and capacity development for high-level policymakers who advise government on strategic issues.

He added that the institution has previously trained top officials from Lagos and Ogun States and is now prepared to extend its TESCOM teachers capacity development programmes to educators in Lagos post-primary schools.

According to him, the training curriculum can be tailored to meet the specific needs of teachers, thereby enhancing their instructional delivery and overall effectiveness.

The meeting was attended by members of the TESCOM Board, management staff, and representatives from OSKASOG, including Anjorin Adeola and Yemi Alaka.

The proposed collaboration is expected to significantly improve teaching quality and capacity development across Lagos State’s education system.
