The Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has encouraged young leaders to embrace innovation and forward-thinking solutions in the evolving global energy sector.
Eko Hot News reports that the Honourable Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, gave the advice during an interactive session with fellows of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA) at the Folarin Coker Clinic.
The fellows were led by the Executive Secretary of the academy, Aishat Agbaje-Okunade, as part of a knowledge-sharing visit aimed at strengthening leadership development within the public sector.
Welcoming the delegation, Ogunleye reaffirmed the commitment of the Lagos State Government to nurturing transformational leaders capable of contributing meaningfully to governance and public service.
He noted that leadership development initiatives such as the academy play an important role in preparing young professionals for the responsibilities of public administration.

The Commissioner emphasised that the global energy landscape is rapidly evolving, with renewable energy and sustainable power systems shaping the future of electricity generation.
According to him, this transition presents opportunities for innovative thinking and new solutions that can support economic development and improved living standards.
Ogunleye explained that the activities of the Ministry are guided by the theme “Energy For All,” a vision aimed at expanding access to reliable and sustainable energy across Lagos State.
He said the initiative focuses on improving electricity availability for residents, businesses and industries throughout the state.

The Commissioner encouraged the fellows to think creatively about the future of energy production, financing and distribution.
He noted that innovative ideas and modern technologies will play a key role in addressing energy challenges in growing urban centres.
“Renewable energy represents the future of power generation,” he said, adding that the state remains committed to exploring sustainable energy solutions that support long-term development.
During the technical session, the fellows engaged officials of the Ministry on several topics related to the energy sector.
Discussions covered independent electricity generation, energy financing and the integration of emerging technologies into power systems.
Participants also explored policy frameworks that support energy development and the opportunities available within the sector.
Speaking during the session, the Director of the Geological Department, Taiwo Akinosho, highlighted the department’s responsibilities in geological surveys and mineral resources exploration.

He explained that the department contributes to the state’s efforts to identify and utilise natural resources responsibly.
Also addressing the fellows, the Director and Head of the Oil and Gas Department, Adedayo Adereti, discussed the Ministry’s oversight of the hydrocarbon sector.
He also spoke about policy initiatives such as the Alternative Vehicle Fuel Policy aimed at encouraging the adoption of cleaner and more efficient energy sources.
The technical interaction allowed the fellows to gain practical insights into how energy policies are developed and implemented.
It also provided an opportunity for them to interact directly with professionals involved in the management of energy resources in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the visiting delegation, Aishat Agbaje-Okunade expressed appreciation to the Ministry for the opportunity to engage with its leadership.
She noted that the visit aligned with the academy’s mission of developing visionary leaders through practical learning and real-life interactions with public sector experts.
According to her, engagements like this strengthen the leadership capacity of fellows and broaden their understanding of governance.
