The Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development has expressed readiness to collaborate with Konfam 89.5 FM to strengthen public awareness on the planning permit process and promote orderly urban development across the state.
Eko Hot News reports that the Honourable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluyinka Olumide, made this known during a courtesy visit by the management team of the radio station to the Ministry’s office in Alausa.
Dr. Olumide described the visit as timely, noting that the Ministry is currently intensifying public sensitisation to educate residents on the importance of obtaining planning permits before starting any form of building development.
According to him, inadequate public awareness has contributed to the growing number of buildings developed without proper planning approval across the state.
He explained that stronger collaboration with media organisations will help bridge the information gap and ensure residents understand the procedures involved in obtaining planning permits.

The Commissioner emphasised that planning permits play a crucial role in ensuring that development across the state follows approved standards and urban planning guidelines.
He added that public understanding of the permit process will support the government’s vision for sustainable and well-structured communities.
Dr. Olumide further explained that the state government is strengthening compliance mechanisms to encourage property developers and owners to follow the appropriate approval process.
He noted that planning permits will increasingly become an important requirement in property transactions and other official processes within the state.
According to the Commissioner, property owners who obtain valid planning permits enjoy legal protection in situations where structures may be affected by public infrastructure projects.
He explained that approved documentation provides the basis for proper recognition and necessary compensation when required.
Dr. Olumide also commended the radio station for broadcasting in Pidgin English, noting that the language plays an important role in reaching grassroots communities.

He said the platform offers an effective channel for communicating government policies and information to a wider audience across the state.
The Commissioner encouraged the station to continue sharing accurate and balanced information that will help residents better understand government initiatives related to urban development.
He also emphasised the importance of responsible communication in promoting public awareness and compliance with planning regulations.
Speaking during the visit, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Physical Planning, Oluwole Sotire, highlighted the importance of grassroots communication in policy awareness.
Sotire explained that community-focused communication channels play a vital role in ensuring residents receive clear and accurate information.
He encouraged the radio station to continue educating listeners about the planning permit process and its importance in maintaining organised development.
The Permanent Secretary added that effective communication between the government and residents will help build greater understanding of planning regulations.
He also noted that collaboration with media organisations supports the Ministry’s goal of ensuring residents are properly informed about urban planning guidelines.

Officials at the meeting emphasised that planning permits are essential for maintaining safety, orderliness and environmental sustainability in growing cities.
They explained that increased awareness will help reduce cases where buildings are developed without proper approvals.
Stakeholders at the meeting also acknowledged the important role of the media in promoting civic awareness and encouraging responsible development practices.
The visit concluded with discussions on future collaboration between the Ministry and the radio station in promoting public education on planning regulations.
Observers noted that such partnerships between government institutions and media organisations help improve communication and strengthen public participation in governance.
As Lagos continues to expand, authorities say ongoing awareness efforts will ensure residents remain informed about the procedures required for responsible property development.
The collaboration is expected to contribute to a more organised urban environment and support the state’s broader development objectives.
