The Lagos State Informal Space Management Authority (LASISMA) has served contravention notices and marked buildings encroaching on high-tension right-of-way in the Alagbado/Oke-Odo axis of Lagos State.

Eko Hot News reports that the enforcement and sensitisation exercise was carried out along the AIT Road corridor on the directive of the Honourable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Olumide Oluyinka.

Representing the General Manager, TPL Daisi Oso, TPL Emmanuel Seyi Ogunyemi led the team that served notices on occupants within the affected corridor. Buildings found encroaching on the high-tension right-of-way were clearly marked.

Officials directed property owners to recess their structures away from the designated corridor. The move aligns with safety standards and planning regulations guiding urban development in Lagos.

The team explained that the action was necessary to safeguard lives and property. It also aims to reduce environmental hazards and ensure compliance with the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law 2019, as amended.

Speaking during the exercise, TPL Ogunyemi reiterated the agency’s commitment to proactive monitoring. He noted that structures located too close to high-tension lines pose serious safety concerns for residents.

LASISMA officials emphasised that orderly development is central to sustainable urban growth. They stated that enforcement efforts will continue across informal and incidental open spaces in the state.

The agency collaborated with Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) during the operation. A meeting was later held with the LCDA Chairman, Abiodun Jimoh Ejigbadero, to strengthen partnership on land use compliance.

Ejigbadero expressed readiness to work closely with LASISMA and other relevant agencies. He affirmed the council’s commitment to promoting orderly development and improving urban aesthetics within the LCDA.

Stakeholders say the enforcement reflects a broader effort to ensure safer neighbourhoods. Proper adherence to right-of-way regulations is seen as essential for public safety.

Urban planning experts highlight the importance of maintaining clear high-tension corridors. Such measures reduce risks and support long-term infrastructure stability.

LASISMA reiterated that sensitisation remains a key component of its operations. Residents were encouraged to comply with planning laws to avoid sanctions.

The exercise forms part of ongoing initiatives to uphold planning standards statewide. Authorities say sustained collaboration will foster a safer and more organised Lagos.
