The Lagos State Law Reform Commission (LAWRECOM) has intensified efforts to promote legal awareness and strengthen governance through strategic partnerships and community engagement across the state.
Eko Hot News reports that this formed the focus of discussions during a courtesy visit by the Commission’s management team, led by Executive Secretary, Oluyemisi Ogunlola, to the Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Honourable Sesan Olowa.
The visit highlighted plans to review, modernise, simplify and consolidate the Laws of Lagos State. LAWRECOM also aims to enhance public access to legal information through structured collaboration with local councils.

Mrs. Ogunlola emphasised the importance of working closely with local governments and Conference 57. She described the body as a strategic partner in legislative development, implementation and public enlightenment.
According to her, the Commission seeks partnership on the review, harmonisation, compilation and codification of local government bye-laws. She also proposed translating laws into Yoruba and establishing community-based Yoruba law access centres.
The Executive Secretary stated that expanding legal education and public enlightenment initiatives remains a priority. She added that LAWRECOM is prepared to provide technical support and capacity building for legislators and legal officers.

Responding, Olowa commended the Commission’s innovative approach to governance documentation and legal awareness. He affirmed that Conference 57 is open to partnerships that improve legislative efficiency.
Olowa said the conference is ready to collaborate on standardising bye-laws for greater clarity and effectiveness. He noted that leveraging professional expertise on recent tax reforms would help eliminate regulatory overlaps.
He proposed forming a committee of Directors of Legal Departments to exchange knowledge and strengthen processes. The initiative, he said, would promote uniformity and improve administrative efficiency.

Both parties agreed that LAWRECOM would present its agenda at a broader Conference 57 meeting. The goal is to coordinate partnerships that strengthen legal authority and grassroots awareness.
The proposed collaboration also aims to promote bilingual access to laws in English and Yoruba. Consolidated volumes of bye-laws are expected to provide easier reference for administrators, courts and investors.
The courtesy visit forms part of LAWRECOM’s ongoing drive to deepen interagency collaboration. The Commission reiterated its commitment to advancing effective law reform and inclusive governance across Lagos State.
