The Lagos State Government has announced that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will formally receive Lagos-based student athletes who delivered a historic performance at the World School Games Olympia in Doha, Qatar.
Eko Hot News reports that the reception will celebrate the medal-winning contingent drawn from various Lagos schools. The athletes excelled in athletics, football, and swimming across the Under-11, Under-13, and Under-15 categories.
According to the Lagos State Sports Commission, the event is designed to honour not only medals but also the discipline, teamwork, and resilience displayed throughout the competition. Officials described the performance as a milestone for structured school sports in the state.
At the Games, Lagos schools recorded an impressive medal haul and ranked prominently on overall leaderboards across age divisions. The results reinforced Lagos’ growing reputation for nurturing young sporting talents.
Saint Saviour’s School finished first overall in the Under-11 category, emerging as the standout performer at that level. Grange School placed second overall in the Under-13 category and third overall in the Under-15 division, demonstrating consistency across groups.
Other participating schools included Riverbank School, British International School, Lagos Preparatory & Secondary School, and Corona School. Their students competed with distinction in multiple sporting events.

The state government noted that the international outing reflects sustained investment in grassroots sports development. Stakeholders say structured competitions at school level continue to produce athletes capable of excelling globally.
In addition to celebrating the World School Games champions, Governor Sanwo-Olu will also honour Team Lagos athletes who represented Nigeria at the African Youth Games in Angola. The athletes reportedly delivered commendable performances on the continental stage.
Many of the honoured athletes began their journey at the National Youth Games, where they first represented Lagos State. Their progression to international competitions highlights a clear pathway for talent development.
The planned reception underscores Lagos State’s commitment to youth empowerment through sports and recognition of excellence.
