Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshals have uncovered and shut down an illegal mining operation in Uke Community, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Eko Hot News reports that the enforcement team acted on credible intelligence following a petition filed by licensed operator A.A. Kurna Global Mines Ltd. The operatives stormed the site and arrested 15 suspects engaged in unlawful mining activities.
Preliminary investigations revealed that 11 of the suspects were directly involved in illegal extraction operations. Others allegedly provided support services, including transportation and construction work within the mining site.

Authorities confirmed that four of the arrested suspects are foreign nationals. Their immigration status is currently being verified as part of ongoing investigative procedures.
The NSCDC reiterated its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s mineral resources and enforcing compliance within the mining sector. The agency stressed that illegal mining poses significant threats to national revenue, environmental safety, and community stability.

Commander of the Mining Marshals, ACC John Onoja Attah, affirmed that protecting the rights of legitimate mineral title holders remains non-negotiable. He declared that lawful operators must have unhindered access to their licensed mining sites.
Attah emphasized that enforcement actions will continue irrespective of the individuals or interests involved. He noted that the Corps remains resolute in dismantling illegal mining networks across the country.

The NSCDC further stated that the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure remains central to its mandate. This objective, it added, has been strengthened under the leadership reforms of Commandant General, Abubakar Ahmed Audi.

Officials described the operation as part of a broader crackdown on illegal mineral exploitation. They assured stakeholders in the mining industry that regulatory enforcement would be sustained to promote transparency and lawful operations.
The agency urged members of the public to provide timely information that could assist in curbing illegal mining activities nationwide.
