Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has appealed to individuals and corporate organisations to support the state’s security architecture through increased contributions to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.

Eko Hot News reports that the governor made the appeal during a private breakfast meeting with selected Managing Directors and Chief Executive Officers in Ikoyi, organised by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund to raise funds for critical security needs for 2026.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said the funds are required to procure multipurpose security helicopters, drones, armoured personnel carriers, water cannons, and advanced digital communication equipment to strengthen security operations across the state.

He also listed smart CCTV cameras, police tactical training, infrastructural upgrades, patrol vehicles, and an ultra-modern mechanical workshop as key priorities needed to enhance response capacity and public safety.

The governor noted that previous private sector interventions were transparently deployed, stressing that accountability and proper utilisation of funds have earned the trust of contributors and inspired other states to adopt similar models.

He disclosed that the state government continues to shoulder over 50 percent of annual security funding while seeking credible partnerships with the private sector to scale up investments in technology-driven security solutions.

Governor Sanwo-Olu revealed plans to rebuild and upgrade the Command and Control Centre with state-of-the-art equipment, including expanded CCTV coverage under the Safe City initiative.

Addressing recent protests over the Makoko demolition, the governor said the action was taken strictly in the public interest to prevent potential disasters linked to encroachment on the Third Mainland Bridge and nearby high-tension power lines.

He explained that the demolition was a preventive safety measure aimed at saving lives, dismissing claims that the government acted out of insensitivity or political motives.

Sanwo-Olu criticised some non-governmental organisations for exploiting vulnerable communities for financial gain, insisting that the state remains committed to improving living conditions rather than displacing residents arbitrarily.

The governor also announced plans to commission 35 junior and senior secondary schools in the Tolu community, Ajegunle, next month, which will cater to over 22,000 students.

He cited the successful relocation of the Okobaba sawmill to Agbowa as evidence of the government’s long-term commitment to safety, urban renewal, and inclusive development.

According to him, sustained security remains central to attracting new investments and ensuring Lagos continues to provide a safe environment for residents and businesses.
