Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has admonished Christian intending pilgrims to conduct themselves as good ambassadors of Christ and Lagos State during the Y2025 Pilgrimage Exercise.
Eko Hot News reports that the Governor delivered the message at a “Service of Dedication” organised by the Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, ahead of the 2025 pilgrimage. He was represented by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Mr Ibrahim Layode.
Governor Sanwo-Olu urged the pilgrims to use the pilgrimage period to pray for peace, unity, and progress in Lagos State and Nigeria. He reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to their spiritual growth, safety, and overall well-being throughout the journey.
Layode noted that the theme of the service, “Set Apart for a Holy Journey,” highlights the spiritual importance of pilgrimage. He encouraged pilgrims to remain patient, tolerant, and supportive of one another during the exercise.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Christian Matters, Reverend Bukola Adeleke, offered prayers for a safe journey. He urged the pilgrims to remain focused, united, and disciplined as representatives of both Christ and the State.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Mr Adewunmi Ogunsanya, advised pilgrims to obey the laws of host countries and adhere strictly to instructions from tour guides. He warned against absconding, stressing that offenders would face legal consequences.

Board Secretary, Dr Omoniyi Okudero, advised participants to prioritise the spiritual essence of the pilgrimage over social activities. He assured them of proper coordination and guidance throughout the exercise.
In his sermon, Very Reverend Dr Ayo Adepoju of the Methodist Church of Nigeria urged pilgrims to approach the journey with faith and expectation, drawing inspiration from Romans 12:1.

The first batch of pilgrims is scheduled to depart on Saturday, January 31, 2026, for Israel and Jordan.
