The Lagos State Government has joined the global community to commemorate the International Day of Education, reaffirming its commitment to safe, inclusive, and quality learning across public schools in the state.

Eko Hot News reports that the celebration featured photo sessions with the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, to mark the significance of the day and highlight ongoing education reforms under the Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu administration.

The commemoration underscored the state government’s focus on providing a safe learning environment for students at all levels of basic and secondary education.

According to the Ministry, several measures have been implemented to protect learners, including child protection policies, safeguarding training, and sustained advocacy against abuse, exploitation, and violence in schools.

Schools across the state are also conducting regular safety awareness programmes to promote preparedness and risk prevention.

Fire drills are being carried out routinely, while strict laboratory safety regulations are enforced to minimise hazards and ensure student safety.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu Alli-Balogun, noted that the state has strengthened education planning and safety monitoring through a unified academic calendar.

He explained that the approach helps schools align academic activities while fostering a safe school culture that prioritises learner protection and overall well-being.

Alli-Balogun further stated that the Ministry remains focused on sustainable reforms that will deliver enduring achievements in the education sector.

He emphasised that ongoing efforts are targeted at improving learning outcomes, enhancing infrastructure, and supporting teachers and learners across Lagos State.

The Commissioner reiterated that education remains a key pillar of the Sanwo-Olu administration’s development agenda.

He assured stakeholders that the government will continue to invest in policies and programmes that promote quality, accessible, and inclusive education.

On behalf of the Lagos State Government, Mr Alli-Balogun wished all learners a happy International Day of Education.
